Welcome to Bakari, an intermediate to advanced big cat roleplay.
WELL HI. It looks like you've stumbled across our fine feline establishment, hm? Well, we sure are glad, as the more the merrier around here! We opened on the 1st of May, and.... well, all we can say is that we hope you like what you see, and we hope you stick around. We are a semi-realistic, literate wild feline roleplay, where your character can range from any species we have on our species list, which you can find in the drop down bar, aka, the 'important links' we have for you just to the right of this table. Bakari is a pretty large place, where the different biomes range from tundra, to swampland, to savannah, and just about everything in between. So, if this looks like the place for you, please, join our community, as we would love to have you.

Hey guys! Bakari's been open for almost two weeks now, and I must say, we're doing pretty well, don't you think? Taboo and I are really chuffed with all you guys, and all the new characters being created and all the new threads popping up all over the place. I've just got a few things to mention, first things first, I've got a few bans I need to enforce, unfortunately. As much as I love lions, there are loads of them compared to some other species, so until we see some of the lesser known cats about, they'll remain banned. It's the same with females, there are loads compared to male characters, so females are banned too. However, males and tundra cats - snow leopards and mountain lions are a couple of examples - are encouraged, so it'd be great to see more of them around! Secondly, the OOC event's deadline is a few days time, and there's only been one entry so far, which is disappointing, I won't lie. So please, participate! You get a prize just for entering. Anyway, that's about it guys! Keep roleplaying and continue making characters, as we love seeing them about!

Here is where you'll find the rules of Bakari, the history of the reserve so far and anything else you'll need to know before you start your journey with us.
Here at Bakari, we don't like our members feeling that they're not in the know how. So, all you have to do is check this board regularly and you'll never have to worry about missing out on the important goings on, such as activity checks and upcoming site wide sub-plots.
If you do decide that your lion can handle the responsibility of maintaining a pride, then all stats will need to be posted here, where you are expected to update them regularly. Pride rules and regulations are encouraged, but not mandatory. After all, everyone needs to know their limits.
Wow, I'm so glad those loser members can't see what we talk about in here... OH HI. Wow. Didn't see you there. Yeah, this is where the staff get together and discuss important matters. Important matters that members don't need to concern themselves with, mk? Don't worry, we still love you guys. It's not like we're plotting against you or anything... hurhur.
This is the board where you not only post up your characters biography, but where cubs stats are decided. Be sure to follow the biography form provided when creating your character.
Want to add a bit of excitement and interest to your feline's life? Well, here is where you can brainstorm all sorts of plots for them, with their potential friends, enemies, or lovers. This is also where you can apply to create a pride, and if you're lucky, your lion may just find himself with a patch to call his own. And when the time comes when your character has mated with another and either impregnated another cat, or fallen pregnant themselves because of this, come here and make a post in the 'Pitter Patter' subboard - preferably titled something like 'Male x Female' - and follow the parent forms provided, and then wait for a staff member to reply to your thread with the number of cubs you're been blessed with.
It's always handy to keep a track of your character's relationships with other cats, as well as threads they're in. So, thanks to this board, you can do just that.
This harsh landscape is covered in snow almost all through the year. When every other terrain basks in sunlight, the tundra remains a kingdom of ice, and only the hardiest breeds that are adapted to the freezing temperatures can make it their home here. Here and there, there are coniferous forests, and glaciers that loom high above the landscape, and lakes that are frozen over the majority of the time, but there are cracks and holes here and there in the surface so the cats and their prey can drink the icy cold liquid.
Again, this is another area that some big cats would find hard to survive in. The mountains are snow capped the whole year round, and during particularly harsh winters, more than half the entire mountain is blanketed in white. With all the rocks and ice, it's a tricky route to reach the summit, but if you're hardy enough, it's possible. At the base of the mountain there are a few trees and a small lake trickles down from the peak of the mountain, where some of the snow melts during the warmer months and there seems to be a continuous flow, which makes the lake that collects at the base clear and cold.
A cave system that remains unknown to scientists, but to the big cats that live in the Northern region, it provides shelter, and some amusement as reflections in the ice sheets covering the wall and floor are rather distorted. Similar, in fact, to a 'Hall of Mirrors' at the fair. Be prepared to slip around and onto your rear a few times, even if you have the steadiest of balance, most find they really have to dig their claws in to stay standing.
This large, arid scrubland provides home to quite a few apex predators, therefore it is almost always teaming with life. Thankfully, the cat's do not suffer because there is normally a decent water supply available - unless they are hit with a particularly nasty drought - and this in turn attracts prey for them to feed from. Unlike the other lands, the savannah is huge, and there is room for several successful prides to accomodate it and not have to fight over territory. Although, some do anyway, because they're plain greedy. Ah well, it makes life far more interesting, don't you think? Acacia trees and patches of elephant grass are scattered here and there, along with many other types of flora, to provide shade and comfort for the inhabitants of this large, sparse plain.
With temperatures soaring to astonishing peaks during the day, and plummeting to freezing lows at night, it's a surprise anything can live in this sandy wasteland. Hardly anything can grow here, just the odd palm tree and a pool of water there, the desert isn't exactly.... colourful. But for cats that are adapted to the startling polar opposites in temperature every twelve hours, and lack of moisture, it suits them just fine.
When the scientists first realized that they'd built Bakari on a volcano, they panicked, knowing the cats wouldn't be able to escape if it erupted. But it turns out it's dormant, and thanks to further testing, the humans now know that it has been for hundreds of years. So there's nothing to worry about, and to the cats it's just a hot, dry mountain, cracked by the heat.
Hot, humid and steamy all year round, the jungle is paradise for some big cats, and a nuisance for others, and the felines that find it the latter tend to steer clear. The rainforest is shrouded in a muggy 'cloud' of warmth, and the temperature doesn't tend to vary much until winter sets in, where the tropical felines are provided with some relief from the intensely humid climate and the temperature drops considerably, but not enough for it to snow or anything crazy like that.
Deep within the heart of the rainforest is a swamp, filled with all sorts of ....lovely creatures and Lord only knows how much faeces from however many creatures that live in said swamp. Many felines dislike the swamp, and tend to avoid walking through it unless they have to. And not only because of the filth that would be caked on their fur because of it, but also due to the rumours of a crocodile population thriving in the depths of the murky water...
Unlike the dirty swamp, filled with algae, mangrove tree roots and who knows what else, the waterfall runs clear. The liquid falls from an astounding height and crashes into the large, clear lake below. It's pretty popular all year round as it's one of the only clean drinking sources in the East, but in the summer it's especially sought out, and quite often cats can be found drinking from it, as well as bathing and swimming.
As far as the eye can see, there are only a few silhouettes of trees and that's about it. The prarie is quite literally a large, flat piece of land covered in... well, shrubs and grass. There are some flowers here and there, and in the Spring it looks quite beautiful, lush and green and fertile. In the Winter, however, it's barren and dull. It is home to a few felines, although there's hardly any shelter or shade, even when there are leaves on the trees. Dens can be made in the roots of the trees though, depending on just how wide and hollow the stumps are.
The prarie is pretty much a desolate wasteland compared to this. All year round the forest is cool and shady, even in summer, which provides relief to the cats that live here. The trees vary, from coniferous to deciduous, so even in the winter, some greenery still remains, even if it is capped in white, as the rest of the forest would be. Many dens are scattered around the area, and there always seems to be prey around, so overall the territory can sustain a rather large population of felines.
It winds and weaves throughout most of the West, thin, but long. It does the job, however, and hydrates the feline population. It runs clear, as it's source is the chilly mountain range of the North, and it runs straight from there, across the Western region, and it comes to a halt at a medium-sized 'pool', which comes to about a tiger's shoulders in depth, so the smaller kitties better know how to swim...
We all like to sit back, unwind and have a good chat from time to time, right? So here's the place to do it. If the cbox just isn't the place you want to have a real debate about something, just post it here. Here, you can also find fun games for the whole site to participate in. Just... whatever you want to talk about, make a thread. Within reason of course, keep it PG-13 guys.
Well, you must be eager to have a look around, musn't you? After all, you don't accumulate currency on this site for nothing! So here we have the shop, where you can buy a range of things for your cats. And here you can also find the graphics studios of our resident PS and GIMP lovers, should they choose to set one up. If there aren't any studios up and running, if you just make a thread requesting some graphics, maybe you'll get lucky and someone will reply.
Well, it is a fitting name for the board where all the dead threads are stored, is it not? It was either that or morgue, and catacombs has a nicer ring to it, don't you think? If you want to resurrect a thread, just ask one of the staff and they'll move the thread back to where it originally was.
If you're a member or on the staff team of another site and have found our cosy community, feel free to post an advert here so we can find you and return the favour, if needs be. If you wish to affiliate with us, just fill out the form accordingly and you'll find yourself on our scrolling or static section at the bottom of the forum in no time! Oh, and please, no double posting, it makes the board look cluttered and unsightly. If you are linking back, please put [LB] or [lb] in the title.

Season Summer
Weather Summer has well and truly set in on the reserve of Bakari. All across the varying terrains you'll find the heat causing animals to relax in any patch of shade that they can find for as long as possible. The temperature has of course not risen by much more than a degree in the north of the reserve, but the south, east and west are far different stories. Prey is plentiful for now, but it will begin to decrease towards the end of the season. There are worries of colossal thunderstorms every few weeks as the heat builds up, so it's best to keep as well hidden as possible should one arise when you're out and about.
Season Change May 31st
Prides Currently Two Prides ;; Mabruke and Bakhu.
Pride Statuses Currently, there is are two established prides in Bakari, Mabruke containing five cats, three males and three females, and Bakhu containing two males and two females. Both Mabruke and Bakhu are accepting lions into their ranks. The spring showers have well and truly passed for the residents of Mabruke Kjope, and a particularly dry spell is expected, perhaps with a chance of drought, whereas in Sinai Karoo, there's a chance that a couple of thunderstorms will strike, but there's no need to worry unless you find yourself directly under a stray bolt. There is no illness in either of the prides, and no litters are due.
