The huge falls fell to the pristine lake below, giving pure drinking water to any who so wished to visit. That was just what two young felines decided to do. One of them was a large Siberian Tiger while other smaller feline, a rusty-spotted cat, was seated between the tiger's shoulders. The tiny cat looked quite happy to be riding upon the tiger, although as far as she knew the tiger was just a larger one of her species or just her brother who had managed to get a huge growth spurt.
Once the tiger reached the edge of the lake the cat leaped from his back and proceeded to drink while the tiger himself simply gazed across the water. He had a sudden strange urge to go swimming in the water... He didn't know why felt that way. If he voiced his thoughts out loud Tura would probably laugh at him; the smaller feline didn't exactly share his views on swimming as he had found out when they'd visited a lake once before. Sometimes Tugg could barely believe they were siblings with how different they behaved: Tugg wanted to swim while Tura didn't, Tura loved climbing trees while he despised it, granted, it kept him safe at times but more often than naught he fell out of them or broke limbs both the trees and at one time before his own. He pondered these things but could never come up with the answer except that he was different... But he didn't know how...
"Hey, Tuggy, you still alive up there?"
|
Tugg snapped out of his thoughts and looked down at his big sister with an embarrassed expression on his face. "Oh yes, I'm just fine, sister." To show just how "fine" he was the large cat dipped his head down to take a drink of water. Tura believed him and turned away, giving a large yawn and stretch. The tiny cat was a bit tired as she hadn't had a chance to take a nap on Tugg's back like she usually did. Fortunately for her the tiger moved a short distance away from the lake and lay down, not wasting any time she jogged up to him and clambered onto his back. Quickly, she curled up into a ball with her gold eyes slitted. She wanted to sleep but then again, she didn't know if Tugg was going to do so himself or not and the cat didn't want them to be left with no one keeping watch. Being only four inches tall had its dangers... As if he could read her thoughts Tugg spoke, "You can sleep if you like, I'll keep watch." That was all the cat needed, she closed her eyes and only spoke once more but her voice was slipping off into sleep. "Make sure you... stay... awake..." Her voice trailed off and her breathing became rhythmic as she began to dream. Tugg smiled and kept his eyes open to any signs of a potential threat. There was no way he'd let anything happen to him and especially not his big sister. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

"Speech" 'Thoughts.'
Another failed attempt. The young tiger tried once more to make even the slightest growl. Nothing. She was on a thick branch near the middle of a tall tree, and was constantly having to shift herself to be sure that she wouldn't fall. She lied thinking about what would happen if she did fall. If she were to break something and was unable to walk, calling out for help wasn't an option. She'd simply lie there and die of either some wild animal or and infection in what ever was broken. Being mute did have one tiny upside: Giving the silent treatment wasn't hard at all. And she lived with two brothers, so it was used quite a lot...
'Speech?' She came out to the waterfall for peace and silence, but this time there were cats here to ruin it. She glanced around looking for the source of the voices. When she didn't see anything, she shifted herself back onto the branch and lied her head down. Again, sleep wasn't going to happen, so she kept her eyes open. Coming here without her brothers was probably how she put up with them. Doing without them for a day is exactly what she needed.
There they were again, the voices. Though this time they were closer. She looked around again, but this time, something at the base of the tree caught her attention. It took a minute to realize what the lump was. It was another tiger, and some other weird looking feline. For a moment she thought about going down to meet them, but... how would she introduce herself? How could she convince them she wasn't dangerous? Pushing those thoughts aside, she jumped down from the tree, landing with a thud. Looking for another way to meet them, she did a quite loud fake sneeze and walked towards the water. Once there, she slid her way in, and began swimming. Maybe they'd come to investigate? And she'd end up with new friends...

He was being watchful, he really was... It was just that he felt that he should rest his head on his paws for bit. Then, he felt that his eyes needed a little rest but he made sure to keep his ears perked to listen really closely to the world around him... That was how he heard the thud and the sneeze. The tiger's golden eyes snapped open and his heard jerked up. He peered around and saw the tiger, it was headed toward the water. If she had seen them, she sure hadn't given any notice. But there was no doubt in the larger tiger's mind that she had to have noticed them. They were right beneath the tree she had leaped from... Wait... Leaped from? Tugg didn't know that tigers could climb trees, how interesting... Oh! And now she was swimming! He could hear the sounds of her splashing around as well as see the top of her striped form as she did so. How he wished to join her... but, no... His mother as well as Tura had told him that water could be quite dangerous if you weren't careful... The tiger didn't seem afraid though... But then the tiger is different than you, another voice reasoned... Well... I"ll just have a look and not go in. Unless it looks fun enough. Besides, if that tigress wanted to eat us she would have done so when she leaped from the tree so I think it's safe enough.
With that thought, the tiger carefully rose to his feet as not to arouse his sister, even though she was a notoriously heavy sleeper. The rusty-spotted cat stayed curled on his back, completely undisturbed; she was small enough to not fall off when he stood up. Slowly walked back to the edge of the lake.
His gaze was drawn to the sleek form of the tigress swimming round in the lake, she seemed graceful and quite happy in the waves. Much unlike what he had been previously told... He felt that strange urge to swim again and thus he kneaded his large paws against the ground to keep from surging into the water. He had to do something or he would charge in... The only outlet he could think of though was talking to the tigress. But what if she did turn out to be hostile? Well... there was only one way to find out.
"Um, hello there." He called to the tigress. He watched her swim around for a few moments before commenting in quite a friendly voice, "Looks like you're having fun swimming in there. Is it nice and cool?" Not that it was a particularly hot that day but it seemed like a good question to ask someone who was swimming.

"Mouthing words." 'Thoughts.'
Torch loved swimming, along with any other kind of activity. She also loved running, climbing, wrestling.. but she only wrestled with her sister. Her brother was far to rough. And, being mute, she couldn't speak up if things got to be to much, which was often. And her brother. He was deaf, so even if she could talk, he couldn't listen. Naazir was deaf, Pyrope was blind, and she was mute. What a messed up litter of tigers.
She slightly turned her head to see the two other cats. The tiger was already up and walking towards her. She didn't see the squirrel-looking thing though. It must have stayed behind. She quickly looked away, to make sure it didn't know she was watching him. She just continued swimming.
(("Um, hello there. Looks like you're having fun swimming in there. Is it nice and cool?"))
Torch looked at him. How was she going to answer? Maybe he could read lips. It didn't help Pyrope at all, but it helped Torch and Naazir talk to each other. She drug herself out of the lake. She looked at the tiger once more before shaking to get the heavy water out of her fur. She walked over to him and sat down. "Yes. Swimming is fun, and refreshing." She mouthed the words slowly to make sure they were clear, or as clear as they could be. "Don't you swim?" She asked.
This tiger looked somewhat different than her and her siblings. There were other kinds of tigers, maybe he was one of them. But his species was the least of her wonders. What was he doing with that squirrel-cat? Most tigers she knew would have snatched it up without hesitation. Well, that was his problem, not hers. She never did like poking her head into other cats' business, where it doesn't belong.

The tigress noticed him and he could tell that she was about to get out of the water. Knowing that she would probably shake her pelt he didn't advance towards her first, he was sure that a stray droplet of water or two would hit his sleeping sister and woe be to the beast who woke her from a nap. The tongue-lashing they would receive wouldn't be very pleasant.
Tugg waited quietly as the tiger approached him and he noticed that her eyes were quite pale. A pale green. Wow, he had never seen eyes like that before. They were different to him... As was what happened next... Instead of speaking the answer to his words the tigress mouthed them... Why had she done that? Was she sick and did she lose her voice? He leaned slightly forward and sniffed, no... She didn't smell sick. So what was the problem? Did... did she lose her voice forever in some accident? He didn't want to be rude and just outright ask... Although if Tura was awake he was sure that she wouldn't be nearly to polite, which was why he was sort of glad she was asleep. If the tigress felt offended she would probably attack and he couldn't fend off a tiger... They were way too big.
Focusing back on the words that had been formed on her lips he tried to form an idea of what she said. He was no mouth reader although he had been able to get the gist of what she said, fortunately. Although, there was a slight frown on his striped face as he tried to figure out what could have caused her lack of speech. What could cause her to become mute. He was actually quite interested at what did it... He wanted to question her and get to the bottom of the conundrum.
"No, I don't swim. My mom and sister say that it's dangerous... Although, you didn't seem to come into any harm from it. Then again, you are a tiger." He didn't mention the fact that he would love to try and swim. He was unaware of the fact though that he was a tiger as well and that last statement could bring about a bit of confusion... But at the moment he was more focused on the rusty-spotted cat on his back whom had just gave a stretch and yawn. No, she wasn't awake yet but she would be soon; Tugg could already tell.
He turned his gold eyes on the tigress and gave a small smile. "I would like to apologize in advance for my, sister. When she wakes she won't be nearly as pleasant as me, I don't think. She's not really that polite when it comes to strangers..." If he could change the way his sister acted he would but that was impossible. Tura was a bit stubborn and any critisicm given most likely would not be taken.

"Speech" 'Thoughts.'
Torch watched the tiger. He was staring at her, obviously confused at her lack of a voice. She let out a small giggle. She loved watching cats she had never met try and talk to her. Most cats often asked her to repeat herself, and do it more slowly, but this one didn't. She thought about repeating herself, but before she could, he began to answer her.
(("No, I don't swim. My mom and sister say that it's dangerous... Although, you didn't seem to come into any harm from it. Then again, you are a tiger. I would like to apologize in advance for my, sister. When she wakes she won't be nearly as pleasant as me, I don't think. She's not really that polite when it comes to strangers..."))
Torch gave him a confused look. There weren't any other tigers around... unless he was speaking of the squirrel-cat? She'd find out soon enough, and she didn't like being nosy. "Dangerous? No, no. It's just water, no harm can come from it." She mouthed, smiling. She didn't smile often, even to her sister and brother. Then again, it wasn't everyday you found a tiger who thought water was dangerous!
"If you want, maybe we could get together sometime, and I could teach you how to swim?" She asked. She shuffled her paws for a second, then lied down. "My name is Torch, by the way. What might yours be?" She asked. She thought about introducing her brother and sister too, but she didn't like speaking for those you weren't present... And that could actually speak for themselves..

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,450,true] | [atrb=background,http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/4303/turatuggmid.jpg,true] Tugg was a bit proud of himself on not having to ask the cat to repeat herself. Now he wouldn't have to seem rude, something he hated to be. He avoided being mean and rude whenever he could, it made him feel guilty to be that way after all...
Now why was she looking at him in that confused way? Had he said something weird? He reviewed the words in his head and couldn't find anything wrong with him... Maybe she just hadn't seen a rusty-spotted cat before. He looked back at the tigress just in time to realize he had just missed something that she said. Uh-oh... He hoped it wasn't a question or anything, he would feel pretty awkward trying to answer a question that he hadn't heard... Or rather, saw. He would just have to remember to keep his mind on the present and on the tiger before him so that he could catch her words.
Now that he was focused the next words weren't easily missed and he gave his own smile. "That would be great! I would love to learn how to swim." The large tiger watched as the tigress laid down before him and mouthed her next words, now he would feel awkward if he stayed standing. Maybe he should lie down as well... Carefully, he turned his head round and gently grabbed his sister's neck scruff in his fangs. It was amazing how gentle the large cat could be, how he didn't crush his big little sister in his huge teeth. After the turned his head back around he lowered himself to the ground with the still-sleeping Tura in his teeth. Then, he lowered her to his paws like a protective parent sheltering their young. "It's nice to meet you Torch. My name is Tugg and this is Tura." He nosed the sleeping cat on his paws, a little rougher than he wanted to and she rolled off onto the ground... Right in front of Torch. Now that she had made an impact on the ground even she couldn't sleep through it. The tiny cat's golden eyes opened and the first thing she saw was a tiger. Panic immediately set in as she realized that she was on the ground out of the protection of the trees.
With a yowl she scrambled as quickly as she could to the nearest tree and climbed it in a second flat. She had only paused once to yell over her shoulder, "Tugg come on follow me! She can't get us in the trees!"
|
Once up the tree though, she realized that her brother was still sitting on the ground looking up at her. "Don't worry, Tur, she's a friend. Her name's Torch, she won't hurt us." The cat in the tree didn't look convinced as she glared down angrily at the Sumatran tiger. It would take more than that to convince her to come down, or be friendly.
