It was the only thought he had on the moment. The wounded deer struggled against the current, nostrils flared in an attempt to oxygenate the lungs fully. The hunter looked on, a hiss escaping his jaws in anger, drowned immediately by the roar of the river. It was rare Avalon let his feelings be expressed like this, or even expressed at all. This time, it was justified. The cougar watched as his prey swam towards the opposite shore, hesitating to go after it. He hated water, as almost all cats did. His pounce had been almost perfect and he had hit it square on the back. But in a moment of futile fighting, he had loosened his grip and the beast had escaped and launched itself in the river. Such a pity. He considered going after it, jumping in and finishing it off while in the river. No, that would be stupid. He wasn't as good a swimmer as the deer were, and couldn't risk being dragged under. His icy, expressionless gaze swept over the river's girth, measuring how large it was. About six meters. I can jump that. The deer was now clambering awkwardly on the opposite shore, a look of triumph on it's long face as it glanced his way. He bared his teeth at the prey. You wait. You wait and see. He jumped onto the nearest tree as the deer turned and walked casually into the woods. Using his claws to the best he could, the male got to the higher branches. His eyes locked onto his landing point, his muscles bunched powerfully. He pushed off like a spring, soaring through the air as gravity did it's work and brought him to the ground. He landed on his front paws, his gaze now locked on the cervidae, which stared in shock at the predator. It hadn't expected it. Arrogant. With a burst of surprising speed, the male launched himself onto the deer's back, gracefully soaring before he hit hard on the prey's body. Unsheathed claws tore into the coat and gleaming fangs fastened around it's neck. A few seconds of desperate kicking preceded a final shiver. Avalon dropped the deer's head. Ears pricked for any sign of company, he skilfully slit the carcass open with a large claw. His fangs started tearing into the meat, but his ears still listened for concurrence. He wouldn't have to wait for long. Words: 402 Tags: K!tten -- Pyrope Muse: 5/10 Notes: Slightly rusty Dx, not my best. "speech" thought |
